Materials testing is integral to ensure a solid foundation for successful projects. Adkins is the region’s leader in materials testing services, as evidenced by our state-of-the art testing capabilities and years of experience.
Testing services are performed in the laboratory and in the field. We test soils, aggregates, asphalt and concrete in accordance with ANSI, ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ODOT and other applicable standards. Compaction testing is provided by traditional and nuclear methods. Our testing equipment is calibrated regularly and our laboratory is ODOT Certified.
Adkin’s materials testing and construction observation services include:
- Soil testing: Adkins soil testing services are comprehensive and include the following tests: water content, void ration, bulk density, sheer strength, consolidation, soil compaction, soil classification, Atterberg limits, hydrometer, Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, triaxial sheer, nuclear densometer, sand cone method, and bearing capacity.
- Aggregate testing: Aggregate testing is imperative for a successful construction project, and Adkins operates a fully equipped aggregate laboratory to support our clients. Our skilled engineers provide technical support and data interpretation based on extensive experience and knowledge of construction materials. Services include standard and modified proctors, nuclear gauge compaction, sieves, etc.
- Asphalt testing: Asphalt testing services performed by Adkins include viscosity testing, binder testing, hot mix testing, asphalt pavement thickness testing, and performance grade evaluation.
- Concrete and masonry testing: Field tests are performed for temperature, air content and slump;and laboratory tests for cylinder/prism compressive strengths or flexural beam strength.
Air National Guard, Klamath Falls, OR – Aircraft Ramp Repair Materials Testing
Adkins has performed materials testing for numerous projects at Kingsley Field, including numerous Aircraft Ramp Repairs where we performed laboratory tests of sand and aggregate base rock for field compaction testing, compaction testing of sand and aggregate base rock under concrete panels, and concrete testing of 70 concrete aircraft ramp panels consisting of slump and air content.
Air National Guard, Klamath Falls, OR – South Arm-Disarm Apron Extension Materials Testing
Adkins provided materials testing services for the South Arm-Disarm Apron for F-15 Eagles at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls. Specifically, we completed laboratory tests of soil subgrade and aggregate base rock for field compaction, compaction testing of soil subgrade, permeable sub-base and aggregate base rock, and concrete testing of 60 concrete aircraft ramp panels consisting of slump and air content.
Air National Guard, Klamath Falls, OR – Squadron Operations Building 243 Materials Testing
Adkins recently completed materials testing for the addition to the Fighter Squadron Operations Building. Testing included laboratory tests of aggregate base rock for field density testing, compaction testing of aggregate base rock under building addition footings, and concrete testing of building addition concrete slabs consisting of slump and air content.
Air National Guard, Klamath Falls, OR – Parking Lots and Roadways Materials Testing
Adkins supported Kingsley Field by performing compaction testing of aggregate base rock under the Building 223 Parking Lot asphalt. We also conducted concrete testing of curbs. Tests consisted of slump, air content, and compressive strength as well as hot mix asphalt density testing by nuclear gauge method.
Air National Guard, Klamath Falls, OR - Aircraft Maintenance Complex Repair Materials Testing
Adkins performed numerous materials testing methods in support of the repair project for the F-15 Aircraft Maintenance Complex at Kingsley Field. Specifically, we completed compaction testing of aggregate base rock under both the building’s interior and exterior, concrete testing of both the interior and exterior footings and elevator pit footings, masonry testing of mortar and grout for elevator and walls using the nuclear gauge method content, flexural strength using simple beam with third-point loading method, and flexural strength using simple beam with third-point loading testing under asphalt pavement and concrete panels by nuclear gauge method content, flexural strength using simple beam with third-point loading concrete slabs and sidewalks, and utility trenches by nuclear gauge method and compressive strength of cylinders.
